We are getting so excited to celebrate Christmas in Maui this year! It's only 2 sleeps away and we have back to back Christmas parties which is a great distraction because I just get so excited about things I almost can't contain mayself! For example, I keep waking up super early every morning this week, I only need one coffee a day and I think I am the happiest I have felt all year because of this upcoming vacation with my favorite people! I love having things to look forward to!
For the past four years I have been doing something I like to call 'The 12 Days of Christmas' for Nolan. It started the first year we went to Maui, which was our honeymoon [and yes, we honeymooned with our child as it was over Christmas]. For the obvious reason that our Maui trip would be all of our gifts, I introduced the 12 Days for Nolan so that he would have a little something to look forward to each morning. The best thing I gave him the first year was a set of super bouncy balls, he still talks about them and how much fun he had bouncing them all over the airport before we flew out!
I wasn't planning on doing it this year because I couldn't think of more than 3 things to give to him for the 12 days and that wasn't going to work. He is only 1 month from being a thirteen year old and since I have no idea what he thinks is cool anymore and knowing the dollar store items might not cut it this year, I felt stumped. Tom encouraged me to go ahead and do it anyway and I am so glad I did. It has become something that Nolan looks forward to every year!
I have struggled over the years to create any Christmas traditions. Since my family celebrates at New Years, Nolan and I were always on our own for Christmas so we would join in with friends, then Tom came into our lives so we started doing his family things. It was so important for me to have Christmas traditions in my own home for my own family that are ours and that was very difficult when every year is different and with different people. The 12 Days of Christmas has become our tradition, all by accident and it warms my little heart so much to see Nolan's cute little smile every morning when I give him his gift!
The 12 Days will begin tomorrow, December 13th. Naturally, I am more excited about it than Tom. Nolan isn't expecting it this year because I told him we weren't doing it. I LOVE CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTMAS SURPRISES! I'm sure this is the year I will get my new car... #christmassurprises #besthusbandever
