What would the blog be without a little life update... Well this summer has been an odd one for me. I'm not sure if the teachers strike started it off wrong with the kids ending school a couple weeks early, but I am blaming that anyway. Even though it started early, it's going by too fast. During a normal summer, you can usually find me on a beach or by a pool during any free moments of my day. Not this year and that makes my heart sad. It is mid-august and I am highly disappointed in my lack of sun bathing. This week I booked off a couple afternoons for intentional beach bumming and both days were overcast, or worse...raining.
Nolan has had one of the best summers of his life! He did two weeks of a sailing camp which he does every year and absolutely loves! The crew that runs the program really enjoyed him and gave Nolan the opportunity to volunteer a couple days a week for the rest of summer. This is so flattering to him because he is supposed to be 14 years old to volunteer and he is only 12. He gets to spend his volunteer days on the beautiful lake in a sail boat...in his words, "It's pretty chill!"
He just got back from a week of camp with his cousin. They had so much fun! We watched Nolan's camp video the other night and I can't lie, I was jealous. The camp put on a sweet techno dance party for the kids complete with a DJ, laser lights, a mechanical bull, pig roast...all I could think was, "WE NEED TO DO THIS FOR TOMBALAH"!! Within an hour of camp ending on friday, I noticed his ipod going off with tons of follower requests on his instagram from ALL GIRLS!
My summer hasn't been quite as exciting, but I am trying to make the most of these last two weeks. It's been a rough season for me if I am being honest. I have been working on forming healthy boundaries in my life and what sucks is every boundary I have attempted to create, seems to have blown up in my face. The ultimate goal here is to relax and de-stress. I don't know how to achieve either so I feel like I need to go away, but Tom won't let me. I am open to a yoga retreat. No. Vegas would be better than yoga. I would like to go to Vegas, but he won't let me. So instead, this weekend being our only free weekend of the summer I will lay out on my hammock with a glass of wine and I will drink my wine with a straw so I don't have to sit up to have a sip. It's the little things, right?
