it's the last two weeks of summer and i am feeling desperate not to take them for granted. we had such a busy, but seriously fun, july. it made the time go by so fast, not to mention that nolan has been so busy between being social and attending his camps and football revving back up... i just really want to make the most of my time with him before he is back in school. last weekend they kicked off the football season with a tournament here in town. nolan was amazing! he scored all the touchdowns and played incredible defense on top of it. rumor has it that his nickname on the sidelines is "superstar"...i will virtually brag about this here, but you better believe that we keep this boy in check at home! he is totally in his element when he is on the football field. he makes me very proud and the mission lions won first place! woot! woot!
we were lucky enough to attend a local event called Feast of Fields after the tournament. friends of ours hosted the event at their farm. we got to go around to different tents tasting wine and food from local wineries and restaurants! it was lots of fun as we got the opportunity to taste wines that we have been wanting to check out, but never find the time. my favorite wine from that day would have to be the 8th generation reisling. by the time we left, there were a lot of people feeling the wine, so as we attempted to get a picture of tom and i, a very friendly man jumped in our shot!
this past week, in between working , i have managed to get my house back in order as i started doing a fall-spring clean. i went to the farmers market and bought a flat of berries, washed them and froze them. i need to get serious about preparing for hibernation this winter. i can't wait to be using local farm fresh blueberries in my smoothies this winter!
my garden this year decided only have of it wanted to grow. between a slug attack on my spinach and my tree for growing so much this past year and blocking the sun from my plants... gardening is crazy! so i have some carrots i am waiting on. my cucmbers that looked like they were stunted for all of july, randomly started growing like weeds in the past two weeks, my peppers (fingers crossed) will ripen this year, but the most consistant vegetable of all, my personal favorite, the cherry tomatoes. every day i am pleased to go and pick all the newly ripened ones. they love me, they grow for me and don't die! it is so nice to finally enjoy the fruits of my labor...
the pool heater at my in-laws decided to pack it in last weekend, so our pool days are sadly over for this year. we tried swimming without the heater, but we clearly are spoiled babies, because it felt like swimming in glacier water! so one more week of summer...hopefully a couple beach days...bbq'ed dinners and sweet quailty time with my nolan before i lose myself in the fall!
